What a terrible story! I remember the first time I went there, though, I was 9 or whatever, visiting from the states, and so when we went there I said to my aunt, "Isn't she worried someone will steal all these stones?" and of course there was the response about this being Iceland and how safe it is. But it does seem like Jonina did try to take some precautions.
